V10 power will hit the streets of Adelaide when the Audi R8 LMS Cup kicks off its 2018 championship at the Adelaide 500.
The Audi R8 LMS Cup is the only full GT3-spec single-make series in the world, and takes its field of prime privateer races to famed circuits like Suzuka, Sepang and Shanghai.
The Adelaide 500 will be the first time the category has raced in Australia and will double as the series debut of the new Audi R8 LMS GT4 alongside the current GT3 and other older generation models.
Martin Kuehl, director of Audi Sport customer racing in Asia, announced the series' journey to South Australia at the launch of the Adelaide 500 on Wednesday morning.
"We are very, very excited about this opportunity," Kuehl said.
"For us, it's really key to present our drivers and teams with new opportunities for their racing.
"To come here to South Australia, to the beautiful city of Adelaide, and then have a street race together with such other amazing categories and support races is a big thing for us."
The Adelaide Street Circuit's reputation for tight, tough racing and unforgiving corners is set to test the Audis' bodywork in March.
"I hope most of the cars will stay in shape!" Kuehl said.
"It definitely will be exciting... from what I've heard [Adelaide] is not easy, it's very technical, it has a very high-speed Turn 8."
Joining the Audi R8 LMS Cup on the grid for the first time will be the new ECB SuperUtes Series, which is set to run as a Supercars support category in 2018.
The Adelaide 500 will run from Thursday 1 to Sunday 4 March 2018. Tickets are on sale now.
