The thunder of the Trans Am Series returns to the streets of Adelaide for the first time since 2020 in only the second time the race vehicles compete on a street circuit.
The category features modern V8-powered, rear-wheel drive muscle cars including Ford Mustangs, Chevrolet Camaros and Dodge Chargers.
The high-powered and raucous race cars are built with the same controlled chassis and components to be cost effective for teams and ensure a level playing field, allowing driver skill to come to the fore.
The series has featured up-and-coming as well as experienced drivers since it was brought to Australia in 2016, after evolving in the US over the previous five decades.
At the Trans Am Series’ last appearance at the Adelaide Street Circuit, Aaron Seton took all the wins, not just in the races but secured pole position as well. Seton has since moved on to compete in the Dunlop Series.
In 2023, former Supercars driver James Moffat (son of Australian touring cars legend Alan Moffatt) won the Trans Am Series championship in nail-biting style, only needing to finish the race to score enough points for the title when mechanical problems struck and forced him to pit. He made it back out on the track in the nick of time to classify as a finisher.
With the VAILO Adelaide 500 to be the final of seven rounds that the Trans Am Series will hold at venues across Australia, another nail-biting finish is likely to be on the cards.
